New Car PDI Checklist: 35 Things to Inspect Before Registration
ACApni CarsNewsroom report

A pre-delivery inspection is the buyer's opportunity to examine the exact allotted vehicle before registration makes replacement difficult. It is not a sign of distrust; it is a normal quality check for a complex product that has been manufactured, transported and stored.

Before visiting the stockyard

  • Ask for the VIN and decode manufacturing month and year.
  • Confirm model, variant, engine, gearbox and colour in writing.
  • Request inspection in daylight before registration.
  • Carry the quotation, booking receipt and feature list.

Inspect the allotted car itself, not a display vehicle of the same variant.

Exterior: 10 checks

  1. Walk around the car in natural light.
  2. Look for paint shade differences and overspray.
  3. Check panel gaps and door alignment.
  4. Inspect bumpers, mirrors and lower cladding.
  5. Check windscreen and glass for chips.
  6. Inspect lamps for cracks or moisture.
  7. Check wheels for scratches.
  8. Read tyre manufacturing dates.
  9. Inspect the spare wheel and tools.
  10. Look underneath for leaks or impact marks.

Cabin and controls: 12 checks

  1. Confirm odometer reading is reasonable.
  2. Inspect seats, dashboard and roof lining.
  3. Test both keys.
  4. Start the car and watch warning lamps complete their check.
  5. Test air conditioning at every vent.
  6. Operate all windows, locks and mirrors.
  7. Test infotainment, cameras and speakers.
  8. Pair a phone briefly.
  9. Check steering controls and horn.
  10. Operate wipers and washers.
  11. Check every seat belt and ISOFIX cover.
  12. Confirm promised accessories are fitted correctly.

Engine bay or EV hardware

For combustion cars, check fluid levels, visible wiring and signs of leakage. For EVs, confirm charging cables, portable charger, wall-box paperwork and charge level. Do not touch orange high-voltage components.

Documents: 8 checks

  • Invoice names the correct VIN and variant.
  • Insurance has the correct IDV and add-ons.
  • Temporary or permanent registration details are accurate.
  • Warranty start date is correct.
  • Extended warranty and service package appear in writing.
  • Owner's manual and service records are supplied.
  • FASTag details match the vehicle.
  • Every payment has an authorised receipt.

If you find a problem

Photograph it, record it on the inspection form and do not approve registration until the resolution is agreed in writing. A minor removable mark may be acceptable after correction; unexplained repainting, structural damage, warning lights or a mismatched VIN require escalation.

Delivery-day final check

Repeat the odometer, warning-light, paint and document checks. Confirm fuel or charge, emergency contact details and first-service timing. Do not let a ceremonial handover replace verification.
