How it works

Plan charging cost before you plug in

The estimate accounts for the target battery change, charger output, tariff and charging loss to show the energy drawn from the wall.

Charging formula

Wall energy = battery energy needed x (1 + charging loss)

Charging cost = wall energy x electricity tariff. Time is wall energy divided by charger output.

Why are charging losses included?+

Energy is lost as heat and through the charger, battery management and auxiliary systems. The amount shown on an electricity bill is normally higher than energy stored in the battery.

How accurate is the charging time?+

It is an estimate based on charger output. Charging slows near a high state of charge, and public chargers can also be limited by the car, station or temperature.

Does public charging change the cost per kilometre?+

Yes. Public DC tariffs are usually higher than a home tariff. Switch the charging profile to compare a likely real-world cost for both.
