Running-cost formula
Monthly cost = energy spend + maintenance + insurance allowance
Energy spend is your monthly distance divided by efficiency, multiplied by the selected fuel or electricity price.
What is included in the running-cost estimate?+
It combines energy spend with the monthly maintenance allowance and the annual insurance allowance you enter. Loan EMI, parking, tolls and unexpected repairs are intentionally kept outside this ownership estimate.
Why does the cost per kilometre change between fuel types?+
Fuel price and real-world efficiency are different for petrol, diesel, CNG and EVs. A realistic comparison needs your usual tariff or fuel price and the efficiency you actually expect to achieve.
Can I use this to compare an EV with a petrol car?+
Yes. Select each energy type to compare the same monthly distance. For an EV, use the tariff that best reflects where you normally charge, including public charging when relevant.
