Car Finance Fine Print: Compare Total Borrowing, Not Just the Monthly EMI
ACApni CarsNewsroom report

Monthly EMI is a cash-flow number. It is not the full cost of a car loan. Two offers with similar EMIs can have different total interest, processing charges, insurance bundles and prepayment conditions. The solution is to compare every offer on the same loan amount and tenure before deciding.

Buyer reviewing car loan paperwork and calculations
Keep the vehicle price and loan comparison separate until both are clear.

The finance sheet to request

LineWhy it belongs on the sheet
Vehicle on-road price and down paymentShows how much is actually financed
Loan amount, rate and tenureDetermines EMI and total interest
Processing and documentation feesChanges the effective cost
Insurance or accessory financingMay add interest to optional products
Prepayment and foreclosure termsMatters if income or plans change

Three questions before a signature

  1. What is the total amount payable if the loan runs to full term?
  2. Which product is optional, even if it is presented as part of approval?
  3. What will it cost to prepay or close the loan early?

Negotiate in the right order

First establish the vehicle's complete on-road price. Then compare lenders using the same down payment and loan amount. Mixing a vehicle discount with a loan scheme makes it easy for a saving in one column to disappear in another.

Good finance is understandable finance: the total, the flexibility and the charges are all clear before the form is signed.
